When Automated Scan-to-CAD Is Not Enough
Automatic conversion can provide a useful starting point, but scanned meshes and imported models do not always produce clean, accurate or practical CAD geometry. Surfaces may be fragmented, important features can be lost, and models may be difficult to edit or manufacture from.
I use engineering judgement and manual surface reconstruction where needed to create more usable geometry, with attention to shape, continuity and the intended application. Each project is assessed individually to agree an appropriate approach.
About Me
I’m Miles Gregson, the owner of Cubes CAD, an independent CAD and engineering design service I established in 2007.
My engineering career began in 1988 with hands-on workshop experience, followed by technical draughting and design, giving me a strong practical understanding of engineering and manufacturing.
Over the years, I’ve worked across mechanical design, manufacturing, industrial equipment, product development and architectural drawing. More recently, I’ve spent around 15 years working on engineering projects within the process industry.
Today, I specialise in CAD geometry repair, NURBS surface reconstruction and mesh-to-CAD conversion, alongside general 3D modelling and engineering design.
I work directly with clients, providing a flexible, reliable and confidential service, whether it’s a single challenging component or ongoing CAD support.
Based in Clitheroe, Lancashire, I work with businesses throughout the UK and beyond.
